Translators provide written translation from the source language into the target language, and vice versa. In Germany there are different ways to qualify as a translator.
Which profession are you interested in?
You trained in the profession of translator at a college and have completed a final state examination. This is then equivalent to training in Germany. Your reference occupation is translator (state-certified).
You have acquired the knowledge and skills for working as a translator at a university and have also completed a final examination. This is then equivalent to a degree in Germany. Your reference occupation is translator (University).
You have completed business-related training and then successfully completed continuing vocational training as a translator. This is then equivalent to the advanced training qualification in Germany. Your reference occupation is translator (certified).
Specific occupation
You would like to translate official certificates and documents in Germany. In this case you need a specific qualification. You need recognition of your professional qualification as a translator. You must also receive authorisation from a court as a translator or be publicly appointed. You apply for this to the competent court. Your reference occupation is translator (authorised / publicly appointed).
