The recognition of professional and vocational qualifications from Colombia was the main focus of a country-specific online seminar held on 10 July. The event was conducted by the BIBB training team for the recognition of foreign professional and vocational qualifications in collaboration with the BQ Portal and the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). It formed part of a series of county-specific seminars which has already included online workshops relating to qualifications from Turkey, Ukraine, India and Afghanistan.
The seminar met with considerable interest and attracted a total of 113 registered participants. It was aimed at advisors, multipliers and volunteers who provide guidance and support within the recognition process to persons with Colombian professional, vocational and higher education qualifications.
The key emphases were on the particular characteristics of the Colombian training and higher education system and on the recognition of relevant qualifications in Germany. Experts from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) explained assessment of Colombian higher education qualifications and addressed the special features of individual certificates while also tackling frequently asked questions from recognition practice. The BQ Portal presented specific details on Colombia and showed which information is available to guidance practitioners regarding the country’s education and VET system and qualifications and certifications. The training team offered additional information on the “Anerkennung in Deutschland” portal, on the sequence of the recognition procedure and on central support provision. This input also covered aspects such as the “Profi-Filter”, guidance services and Spanish-language information material.
As was the case with previous country-specific training courses, this seminar also afforded scope for intensive dialogue between the presenters and participants. Objects of discussion included who is entitled to submit an application in the recognition procedure, how Colombian qualifications such as “Técnico Profesional” and “Tecnólogo” can be aligned within the German education and training context, and which paperwork and documents must be submitted in certified form during the recognition procedure. The numerous questions and examples from practice highlighted the need for more detailed information on individual countries of origin and helped to create a lively specialist dialogue.
The high degree of interest and the detailed exchange on specialist topics underline the requirement for country-specific information on the recognition of foreign professional, vocational and higher education qualifications.
For this reason, the series of seminars will be continued in order to offer advisers the future opportunity to deepen their knowledge of selected countries of origin and to discuss current issues relating to the recognition process.
