They identify and treat congenital diseases or illnesses which exclusively or mainly occur in children and young people. They also arrange for the treatment of behavioural difficulties.
Fields of work
Paediatricians mainly work at specialist medical practices and in hospitals. They are also employed by hospices and institutions specialising in short-term care or in the integration and care of children and young people with disabilities. In addition, they find further employment opportunities in medical research and teaching.
