General nurses support and treat people who are ill or require care. They implement measures prescribed by doctors, assist with medical examinations and treatment and document patient data.
General nurses mainly work in hospitals, at specialist medical practices or at health centres. They also find employment opportunities at old people's residential and care homes, at institutions providing short-term care, at residential homes for disabled people or with care support bodies as the case may be. In addition, they may work in other institutions such as in infirmaries and hospitals on board ships.
