At the emergency scene, primary care paramedics decide whether an emergency physician needs to be called. The perform measures of primary medical attention and assist the physician in emergency and acute care of patients. In addition, they ensure that the patient is able to be transported and supervise the patient's medical condition during the ambulance transport.
Fields of work
Primary care paramedics are mainly employed by rescue and healthcare transport services. They also work for example for blood donation institutions or urban fire brigades. In addition they can be employed by disaster relief organisations or rescue stations organised at the municipal level.
