Energy consultant (m/f)

Energy consultants analyse the energy consumption of buildings and develop concepts for saving energy. They advise on renovation measures, for example, and provide support throughout the process. They also issue energy performance certificates and assist with applications for state funding.

In order to be able to perform all energy consulting tasks in Germany, you must provide proof of your qualifications. Then you can register on the so-called Database of Energy Efficiency Experts. You can prove your basic qualification by completing a degree or training in a relevant field. You can have your degree or training from abroad recognised.

You often also need professional experience in the field of energy consulting and must participate in advanced training.

Legal basis: § 88 of the Buildings Energy Act (GEG)

Note: If you do not have a basic qualification, you may also be able to take the qualification examination for energy consulting. The Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) is responsible for this. The qualification examination also allows you to be registered in the Database of Energy Efficiency Experts.

Your options

Have you completed a degree in a field such as architecture, interior design, structural engineering, building services engineering, civil engineering, physics, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering? Or do you have a professional qualification as a technician or master craftsperson in a relevant field, such as construction technology, air conditioning technology or chimney sweeping? If so, you can apply for the recognition of your professional qualification.
