Fields of work

Nursery teachers mainly work in childcare institutions such as local government and church run nursery schools and crèches, school or company crèches, child day care centres or homes for children and young people. They also find employment at approved schools or community homes for young people, in youth centres, at family and addiction advisory bodies, at daycare centres, at residential homes for people with disabilities or in visiting social services. Further employment opportunities are provided by children’s clinics, childcare institutions run by the church or religious organisations, primary and special schools, boarding schools, youth and lobbying organisations and leisure and holiday homes.

Professional experience

Nursery teachers look after and support children and young people. They are mainly involved in pre-school education, in children’s and youth work and in residential education.
