Counselling abroad

Are you not yet in Germany? If so, you may be able to seek face-to-face counselling in a counselling centre in your country. If there are no counselling centres near you, you can call the hotline “Working and Living in Germany”. You will then receive counselling from the Service Centre for Professional Recognition (ZSBA). All guidance services are free of charge.

Answers to the following questions are provided here:

  • Where are the counselling centres outside Germany?
  • For which questions can I access counselling?
  • What do I need to take to the counselling?
  • Where can I get counselling if there is no counselling centre near me?

Where are the counselling centres outside Germany?

In the following countries it is currently possible for you to seek counselling on recognition in Germany at a counselling centre:

German courses and, in some locations, job application training are also provided in the counselling centres. The contact details are available further below.

Is there no counselling centre for professional recognition near you? If so, then contact the hotline “Working and Living in Germany”. The hotline will answer general questions about residency in Germany and about the recognition procedure. For more in-depth counselling and for support in the procedure you will be passed on to the Service Centre for Professional Recognition (ZSBA). The ZSBA will advise you on recognition and in this context also on residency in Germany. The ZSBA also provides information regarding counselling provision in Germany, opportunities relating to training and about the prospects on the German labour market. The contact for the hotline can be found at the bottom of the page.

Our recommendation

First seek counselling and then apply for recognition. This means you can avoid errors in the application and delays with the processing.

The specialist advisers support you throughout the entire recognition procedure and also with questions relating to immigration in the context of recognition.

You can receive counselling on the following questions:

  • What does the recognition procedure involve?
  • Where can I apply for recognition?
  • Which documents must I submit and in what form?
  • What can I do if I do not receive recognition or receive only partial recognition?
  • How can I immigrate to Germany?
  • How do I find a job in Germany?
  • How do I apply for a job in Germany?
  • How can I improve my German language skills?

Please bring these documents with you to the counselling or have them available:

  • CV
  • Certificates with a summary of subjects and grades
  • Proof of employment, if available (e.g. employment references or time book)
  • Identification (e.g. personal identification, identification card)
  • If you have already applied for a recognition procedure: Letters and notices from the competent authority.

Do you already have documents translated into German? If so, bring these with you to the counselling.

Our recommendation

Arrange an appointment with the counselling centre. You can arrange an appointment by telephone or email. The counselling centre will then also tell you which documents you need to bring with you.

Please only send documents to a counselling centre if the counselling centre has asked you to do this.

The counselling is offered by the ProRecognition Project at the following German chambers of foreign trade (AHK).
