Portal now also available in Greek

Γεια σας! This is the greeting recently included on the "Recognition in Germany" website to welcome visitors who would like to find out about the recognition of their foreign professional qualifications in Greek. The addition of the Greek version means that the online service is now offered in eight languages – besides Greek, it is available in German, English, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Spanish and Turkish.

"We include a lot of information on our website about German laws and administrative procedures. These are often difficult to understand if you are not a legal expert or if you did not grow up in Germany. The multilingual service is mainly aimed at people who need to find out if their qualifications are recognised, and this helps them to find the information faster and, more importantly, for themselves," said Claudia Moravek who heads up the "Recognition in Germany" website project. Visits to the foreign language pages account for around one third of all visits to the information Website.

The main service on the website is the "Recognition Finder" which provides detailed information on the German "Reference Professions" and the relevant recognition procedures. A few clicks will then take the inquirer to the chamber or authority responsible for the application. This service will only be available in English and German until further notice, however, mainly due to the size and changing nature of the database. "There are currently over 700 job profiles and around 1,500 responsible bodies," explained Moravek, "as well as the database relating to the various federal states – it is a major challenge just to keep this information up to date in two languages."

The leaflet "Recognition of your professional qualification in Germany" is also available in Greek, offering a useful summary of the detailed information on the website. The leaflet can also be ordered from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

The "Recognition in Germany" website is provided by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) by order of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
