Professional activities

Geoscientists deal with questions relating to all aspects of the Earth system. They investigate the formation and development and the structure and nature of soils, rock, surface water and groundwater. They can work in the areas of science and teaching, but also in raw material extraction, in environmental protection or in providing expert opinions.

Geoscientists are mainly employed

  • at universities and research institutes
  • at consultancy firms, engineering and architect offices which perform ground investigations
  • in public administration, e.g. in the Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources
